19. Identify two problems resulting from urban sprawl in the western region of the United States. If these problems are not solved, what will the outcome likely be? (5 points)

I don't want the answer, my question is what was the Urban Sprawl?

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/urban%20sprawl

One problem would be , the congested pollution , bad tempers.

I'll get back to the second problem.

@Ms. Sue that does not help at all i did not find anything that explained the two problems and the effects! i would apritiate it if the website was useful

Anonymous Unicorn shes trying to help if you dont think it helps you then reread it because I just found a bunch of interesting things. So REREAD or DO YOUR OWN WORK!

I believe miss Sue was helpful. I wrote my answer down below to give people an example for what she may be trying to give us the idea of. Usually I'd use brainly, but no answers or website has been as help as jiskha has..

I'm not giving my full answer because I don't want to be copied, and also so no one get's in trouble for copyright. So here:
"1. Some people may lose their homes just so the government can build a shopping center or a mall. Another issue is malls and centers take up way to much of our water, gas, or electricity. (then I have a few reasons why..)"
"2. My answer to the outcome would probably depend on the public. Because a lot of people may be upset with these public choices made by higher power. So I think it can start a boycott if something serious happens one day, such as the city lights go out. or it's really hot outside and our power is gone because of a mall thats using all the energy." So yeah. Hope this helps. I also mentioned building more shelters or community gardens that help reserve electricity. GO GREEN !! ;D

Urban sprawl refers to the unrestricted expansion of urban areas into surrounding rural or undeveloped land. It is characterized by the spread of low-density residential and commercial development, often resulting in the fragmentation of open spaces. This phenomenon is commonly associated with the growth of suburbs and the outward expansion of cities.

Urban sprawl can lead to several problems in the western region of the United States, including:

1. Loss of Natural Spaces and Wildlife Habitats: With urban sprawl, there is often a loss of natural areas, such as forests, wetlands, and farmlands. This encroachment on natural environments can disrupt wildlife habitats and lead to the loss of biodiversity.

2. Increased Environmental Impacts: The expansion of urban areas brings an increase in infrastructure development, such as roads, utilities, and buildings. This construction often results in the destruction of ecosystems, harm to water bodies from increased runoff, and air pollution from increased vehicle use, impacting the overall environmental health of the region.

If these problems resulting from urban sprawl are not adequately addressed, the outcome is likely to be:

1. Increased Strain on Urban Infrastructure: As more land is developed, it puts a strain on existing infrastructure systems, such as transportation, water supply, and wastewater management. This can lead to congested roads, increased demand for resources, and overwhelmed systems unable to meet the needs of the growing population.

2. Reduced Quality of Life: The unchecked expansion of urban areas can negatively impact the quality of life for residents. It can lead to longer commutes, increased traffic congestion, reduced access to green spaces and recreational areas, and a decreased sense of community.

Ultimately, if the problems resulting from urban sprawl are not solved, it can have detrimental effects on the environment, ecosystems, and the overall livability of the western region of the United States.
