If Jo is supposed to read one-half of a 100-page book for an English assignment and she has finished 38 pages, what percent of the assignment does she have left to do?

100 - 38 = 62

62/100 = 0.62 = 62%

Actually, the problem states that Jo has to read 1/2 of a 100 page book. It also asks what percent of the assignment is left. So:

38/50 x 100 = 76% read.

100 - 76 = 24% left to read.
