Scott bought 54m of fencing to enclose a rectangular plot of land. The width of the rectangular plot is 12m. Assume Scott uses all the fencing. What is the length of the rectangular plot of land?

a) choose a variable to represent the length of the rectangular plot of land. Write an equation.

b) solve equation using the distributive property.

54 = 2L + 2(12)

54 = 2L + 24

30 = 2L

15 = L
