Homework Help: Chemistry

Posted by Lisa on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 9:46am.

For calculating the concentration of a metal Ion in Equilibrium with a complex ion...how do I get the right hand side of this equation to equal 5.9 E -8?

x(0.98 + 2x)2
_____________ = 1.7 E 7
(0.010-x)

then,

x(0.98)2
________ = 5.9 E -8
0.010

I understand that you cancel out the 2x and - x, but I can't figure out how 5.9E -8 was obtained?
