A rectangular plot, 21m by 14m, is to be turned into a rectangular flower bed with a grass border around its outside edge. The grass border is to be 2m wide. What is the area of the flower bed? What is the area of the grass border?

dimensions of flower bed :
17 m by 12 m, (cut off 2 m on each side

area = 17(12) = 204 m^2
