-3x - 5y = -17
4x+8 = y I solve this for y
Now rewrite the first equation and put in 4x + 8 for y.
-3x -5(4x+8) = -17
solve for x. Be sure to multiply both 4x and 8 by negative 5.
Once you have x, you can find y in the original equation.
Also, always check your x and y in both equations to be sure you have not made a mistake.
