In a recent school board election, the two candidates for president received 2590 votes. The loser received 1302 fewer votes than the winner. How many votes did the winner receive?

x + y = 2590
x = y - 1320

Substitute y-1320 for the x in the first equation and this will give you y.

Next, find x.
