does any one know how to estimate products?

6/10 x 5 3/4=

I have no clue how to do this

6/10 is a little more than half

5 3/4 is almost 6

What is half of 6?

Thank you I am still confused I don't get this estimating products at all :(

We often estimate when we don't have pencil and paper or a calculator handy. For instance, we may estimate the total of our purchases in a store to make sure we have enough money to pay for them.

To estimate, we round the numbers to numbers that are easy to figure in our heads.

Do you understand this part of my explanation?

6/10 is a little more than half

5 3/4 is almost 6

To estimate products, you can use rounding and mental math instead of calculating exact values. Here's how you can estimate the product of 6/10 and 5 3/4:

1. Convert 5 3/4 to an improper fraction:
5 3/4 = (5 * 4 + 3) / 4 = 23 / 4.

2. Round the fractions to the nearest whole number:
6/10 is approximately 1/2, since it's close to 0.5.
23/4 is approximately 6, since it's close to 6 (23 divided by 4 is about 5.75).

3. Multiply the whole numbers:
1/2 x 6 = 6/2 = 3

So, the estimated product of 6/10 and 5 3/4 is approximately 3.

To calculate the exact product:

1. Convert 5 3/4 to an improper fraction:
5 3/4 = (5 * 4 + 3) / 4 = 23 / 4.

2. Multiply the fractions:
6/10 x 23/4 = (6 x 23) / (10 x 4) = 138 / 40 = 69 / 20.

Thus, the exact product of 6/10 and 5 3/4 is 69/20.
