I missed these questions on homework about adjectives. Can you double check my corrections?

Directions: 1. tell what is the adjective 2. what noun or pronoun it's describing

Sentences:
1. Rhode Island is a small state.
My orig ans: 1. small, 2. Rhode Island
Correction: 1. small 2. state

2. Danny is an excellent runner.
My orig ans: 1. excellent 2.Danny
Correction: 1. excellent 2. runner

Just follow up question I have:
1. Is Rhode Island and Danny just acting as the subject?
