Calculate the density of M&M’s given the following data:

Mass of 250.0 mL beaker = 197.816 g

Mass of beaker and 20 M&M’s = 342.816 g

Volume of water in graduated cylinder = 8.0 mL

Volume of water in graduated cylinder and 10 M&M’s = 18.5 mL (Points : 3)

  • chemistry - ,

    342.816 g = mass beaker + 20 M&M
    -197.816 g = mass beaker
    --------
    ?? = mass 20 M&Ms
    mass of 10 M&Ms = ?

    18.5 mL = volume M&Ms + water.
    -8.0 mL = volume H2O
    ------------
    ? = volume 10 M&Ms

    density = mass 10 M&Ms/volume 10 M&Ms

  • chemistry - ,

    I should point out a problem here if you aren't aware of it already; M*Ms are soluble in water. Therefore, the density can't be determined this way.
