Homework Help: perimeter and area

A rectangular field is 13 m long and 10 m wide. its has a cement path 3 1/2 m wide around it. What is the area of the cement path?

area of field alone: 13*10 = 130
area of field+path: (13+7)(10+7) = 340
area of path: 340-130 = 210

seems like a mighty wide path for such a small field.
