Why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't both be worked on, with the goal to make renewable energy abundant and affordable?
Our culture has been through other transitions, and people adapt. Think about the horse-and-carriage/stagecoach/etc times and the transition to cars and trucks. Think about expensive long-distance telephoning and the transition to cell phones with unlimited talk and text. There are many others.
