What is meant by the subthemes: death as pervading life, time as the essence of death and self destruction, night as the environment of death, and death as the great isolator as applied to Pablo Neruda's poems, especially Residence on Earth?
How would you like us to help you with this assignment?
Thanks for responding. I would like to know the significance of these subthemes, as I am having some trouble explaining them
This site may help you.
I haven't read any of these poems, but if you list the significances you can think of, we may be able to help you explain them.
Well I have some things from an article:
opposition of life and death, living in order to move closer to death
All life is a movement toward
death, Neruda associates time with death
time symbol serves as a bridge between the related themes of death and of solitude
It looks like they all tie in with the fact that every living creature dies. Death provides the ultimate solitude.
