There are many ways to describe weather. If it is raining very hard, the idiom "It's raining cats and dogs is used. This is from ancient times when cats and dogs were on thatched roofs and would fall when the roof would collapse in heavy rain. Cats would get up and walk away, but dogs would be scared and look for owners. That was because CATS ARE TO INDEPENDENT AS DOGS ARE TO DEPENDENT.
