An average 10 yr boy weighs 86 1/2 pounds and has muscles that weigh 34 1/5 pounds. An average 10 yr old girl weigh 82 1/3 pounds and has muscles that weigh 31 1/4 pounds. How much do an average 10 yr old boy and girl weigh together ? With answer can you tell me how you got it.

It seems that the muscle weight is unnecessary information. In order to find average you add the two weights and divide by how many weights you added, in this case 2.

So 86.5 + 82.3333333 = 168.833333 / 2 = 84.417 pounds

86 1/2 + 82 1/3 = 168 5/6
