i did this question a very long time ago but i kind of rember it and i think the answer is 12 but im not sure sorry

If the father is age f and the son age s,
f = 3s
(f-4) = 4(s-4)
3s-4 = 4s-16
s = 12
so, son is 12, father is 36.
4 years ago, son was 8, father was 32.
