Please explain the steps in the scientific method for the mythbusters program that tests to see if a penny dropped from the empire state bldg. could actually penetrate someones skull if it hit them.

I haven't seen the program, however, I would investigate terminal velocity for a penny dropped from high up. Second, I would investigate the force that penny will make on impact.

I was drydock repair officer in Long Beach many years ago, down in the drydock inspecting hull work. A sailor, cleaning up the deck of the ship above, swept a bolt over the side, which fell and struck my safety helmet, glanced off and hit my shoulder, doing the following damage: Helmet cracked, skull ok, shoulder badly bruised. If I had been able to get to the ship, I would have given some apt instruction to the sailor responsible.

But I haven't seen that program, so I can't comment on what they did.
