Salts, such as MgSO4 and KNO3 are made by combining appropriate acids and bases. For example,
KNO3 would be from K(OH) and (H)NO3. tHE parentheses show how that is divided in order to know which acid and which base to choose.
Bases that are insoluble in water, such as Ni(OH)2 are prepared by adding a base to the appropriate salt. For example.
NiSO4(aq) + 2NaOH(aq) ==> Ni(OH)2(s) + Na2SO4(aq)
