**Steve**, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 10:31am2 shorts + 3 socks = 33

1 shorts + 5 socks = 27

so,

2 shorts + 10 socks = 54

subtract one equation from the other:

7 socks = 21

socks = 3

so, shorts = 12
