While visiting their uncle's farm, Francine and Leah caught 68 turtles in the creek on Saturday. What was the total number of tickets sold for the two days? Estimate using on the front digits.

Turtles and tickets?????

Sorry, combined 2 separate questions :(

Francine & Leah caught 68 turtles in the creek on Saturday and 67 turtles on sunday. How many turtles did they catch on the weekend? Estimate using only the fron digits.

70 + 70 = 140

That is the answer that I got, but my answer is not an option. The answers I have to choose from is 130 turtles, 150 turtles, 120 turtles and 110 turtles.

Your answer choices are wrong.

Your instructions are to use front-end estimation. The only possible answer is 130.

Note that the actual answer is 135 which rounds to 140.

Please talk with your teacher about this faulty question.

The only possible answer is 140.

Thank you Ms. Sue. I do that.

You're welcome, Susan.

Is it possible you copied the problem wrong?

To estimate the total number of tickets sold for the two days, we can use the front digits of the number of turtles caught on Saturday.

According to the problem, Francine and Leah caught 68 turtles in the creek on Saturday. Let's assume that the number of tickets sold is proportional to the number of turtles caught.

Now, let's make the assumption that the number of tickets sold is roughly equal to ten times the number of turtles caught. This is just an assumption, and the actual number could be higher or lower depending on various factors.

So, multiplying 68 by 10 gives us an estimate of 680 tickets sold for Saturday.

Since we need to find the total number of tickets sold for the two days, we should also consider the number of tickets sold on Sunday. However, the problem doesn't provide any information about the number of turtles caught on Sunday, so we don't have enough information to estimate the total number of tickets sold accurately.

Therefore, based on the information given, we can estimate that the total number of tickets sold for the two days is approximately 680.
