A good scientist must have a keen mind an unqhenchable curiousity and a (groundless disinterested) desire to discover the truth

disinterested?

Ms.Sue you told me it should be maximum but groundless and disinterested are the only options. So is my answer still correct?

I don't see a scientist needs to be not interested in the truth.

It says disinterested means fair minded, free from selfish motives ;indifferent on my paper. What does that mean

OK. Using the first two definitions of disinterested, your answer is correct.

Okay, Thanks ! :D

You're welcome.

And thanks for being persistent in defending your answer! :-)

To clarify, the word "disinterested" in the sentence you provided means unbiased or impartial. It implies that a good scientist should have a desire to discover the truth without being influenced by personal interests or biases. However, the term "groundless" does not align with the meaning you intended. If your goal is to convey that a good scientist should have an unbiased or impartial desire to discover the truth, then "disinterested" would be the appropriate choice.
