8(x + 3/4) < 2
8x + 6 < 2
8x < -4
x < -1/2
Ahh. by brackets you mean || for absolute value?
8|x + 3/4| < 2
if x+3/4 >= 0, then
x < -1/2 as above
if x+3/4 < 0, then
-8(x + 3/4) < 2
-8x - 6 < 2
-8 < 8x
x > -1
-1 < x < -1/2
