Homework Help: algebra

Uhhhh... well i need help with this algebra but i kinda need it explained as well...meaning if you can help please explain what you did because i have no idea how to do this kind of problem

i need to know what r is

Multiply both sides by 12.

r + 3 = 12

Subtract 3 from both sides.

r = 9
__________________________

You can prove it by substituting 9 for r in the original equation.

12/12 = 1

OHHHH i get it i wasn't sure if i was supposed to mess with the 3 because ya know how with some problems you don't mess with the number next to the variable soo yeah thanks!:-)
