Factor first, then solve the equation.

1. 3/x+1-1/x-2=1/x^2-x-2
2. 1/y^2-16-2/y+4=2/y-4

1. 3/(x+1) - 1/(x-2) = 1/(x^2-x-2)

3/(x+1) - 1/(x-2) = 1/( (x-2)(x+1) )
multiply each term by (x-2)(x+1)

3(x-2) - 1(x+1) = 1
3x - 6 - x - 1 = 1
2x = 8
x = 2

You try the second the same way.
hint: x^2 - 16 = (y+4)(y-4)
