e.g. My father reads the newspaper every day.

(What is the meaning of the sentence above? #1 or #2?)

1. My father reads the same/specific newspaper every day /repeatedly.

2. My father reads newspapers every day. He reads newly delivered newspapers every day. (different newapapers)

They all mean about the same. The first (and #1) imply that he reads one particular newspaper each day, while #2 says he reads more than one daily.
