Verbs can either show action or state of being. Action verbs tell what someone or something is doing.
In your first sentence, "We spent a considerable amount of time," which word tells what we did?
Sentences 2 and 3 have state of being verbs.
The most common state of being verbs are:
be, am, are, is, was, were.
Which of those verbs do you see in the second and third sentences?
