Could you please check how I can improve the following sentences? Thank you, Ms Sue.

1) Through his novel Orwell describes the totalitarian governments that had governed Europe in the period between the two wars. As a matter of fact, much of Oceanic society is based upon the U.S.S.R. under Joseph Stalin—Big Brother; the televised Two Minutes Hate is ritual demonisation of the enemies of the State, especially Emmanuel Goldstein, who is a parody of Leon Trotsky.
2) Photographs as well as newspaper articles are altered or even deleted from the national historical record, just as it happened in the U.S.S.R. during the Bolshevik Revolution.
