Homework Help: Foreign languages

I left out a few sentences. Thank you veru much. I need to make sentence 5 shorter.

1) In 1766 William Pitt the Elder was elected Prime Minister and he made England a strong and flourishing commercial country.
2) During the 18th century the middle class gained more and more prestige taking the place that the nobility used to have in society. On the contrary the poors lived in miserable conditions and were affected by many diseases such as smallpox and typhus.
3) In Richardson's Pamela the middle class virtues and characteristics come out: Pamela is a virtuous girl who earns how to live from her work and she refuses her master's advances in order to preserve her virtue.
4) She doesn't give in to him until he proposes to her and they get married.
5) But before that, she manages in every way to escape from his advances such as the episode when Pamela is writing to her parents when he interrupts her and scolds her for having told them about a previous incident and his indecorous behaviour.
