Recall that the volume of a right circular cone with height h and radius of the base r is given by

V=(1/3)(pi)(r^2)(h)

V = 1/3 pi r^2 h

but h = 2r (the diameter)

V = 2/3 pi r^3

dV/dt = 2pi r^2 dr/dt

50 = 2pi*144 dr/dt

dr/dt = 50/288pi = .055 ft/min
