**Reiny**, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:29amx-y=3 ---> x = y+3

xy = 2(x+y)

xy = 2x + 2y

y(y+3) = 2(y+3) + 2y

y^2 + 3y = 2y + 6 + 2y

y^2 - y - 6 = 0

(y-3)(y+2) = 0

y = 3 or -2, but y>0

y = 3, then x = 6

she threw a 3 and a 6
