You go to the video store to rent 5 movies for the weekend. Movies rent for $2 and $3. You spend $13. How many $2 movies did you rent?

number of $3 movies --- 5-x

solve for x

2x + 3(5-x) = 13

Why didn't you just do trial and error. There are only 5 choices.
