Most of the residents of East and West Pakistan were Muslim and followed the religion of Islam.
The only thing that united East and West Pakistan was their common religion, Islam. During the time period of decolonization in India and Africa, which is a significant topic in 10th grade history, the region of Pakistan was partitioned from the Indian subcontinent in 1947 based on religious lines. West Pakistan comprised mainly of areas with a Muslim majority, while East Pakistan (which later became the independent country of Bangladesh) had a predominantly Muslim population as well. The shared religion of Islam was the primary factor that brought these two geographically separate regions together under the umbrella of one country - Pakistan.
