let's get rid of fractions by multiplying by 6 , the LCD
19 + 24y = 48y - 1
20 = 24y
y = 20/24 =5/6
19 / 6 + 4 y = 8 y - 1 / 6
19 / 6 + 1 / 6 = 8y - 4 y
20 / 6 = 4 y Multiply both sides by 6
20 = 6 * 4 y
20 = 24 y
20 = 24 y Divide both sides by 24
20 / 24 = y
4 * 5 / ( 4 * 6 ) = y
5 / 6 = y
y = 5 / 6
