1) Most Shakespeare's plays have a tragic ending. However, in the Tempets criminals are prevented from cuasing death and they are finally forgiven.
2) Finally, the theme of magic: Prospero is able to use it thanks to his books, the robe he wears and his wand, the instrument of magic.
(The tragedies always end with all the main characters having been killed off! The comedies, of which The Tempest is one, don't have the massive slaughter taking place.)
