Jan ate 1/8 of a pizza. Then she ate 1/3 of the pizza. Later she ate 1/4 of it. How much did she eat in all?

When we add fractions, we need a common denominator. For these fractions, 24 is the lowest common denominator.

1/8 = 3/24
1/3 = 8/24
1/4 = 6/24

Add the numerators.

= 17/24
