1) An elderly man remembers the regional tradition on New Year’s Eve when he was a child . In particular, what made New Year’s Eve special for him was that most people in his village carried out an old ritual.
2) A villager knocked at someone's door just after midnight and hand him a piece of coal. This ritual was regarded as a symbol of prosperity for the coming year.
3) His mother played a Scottish song on the piano which was traditionally sung on New Year’s Eve, and all the family sang along to it as loudly as they could.
4) Two teenagers are discussing traditional events. They believe that traditional events are dying out because modern society doesn’t value them. The boy says that apart from Christmas, New Year, and birthdays, his family doesn’t take part in any traditional celebrations.
