Thank you very much!

Can I divide my work into summary, narrative structure, and main themes?

This is the very first part of the summary. I don't know if it is correct to use the present.
Could you please revise it?

1) At the beginning of the novel we learn that Robinson was born in 1632 in the city of York, in the north of England.

2) Robinson's original name was Robinson Kreutznaer. He was called Robinson after his mother's surname. When his family moved to England, his German surname was changed to Crusoe.

3) His father hopes Robinson will study law, but Robinson's desire to go to sea is so strong that he ignores his father's advice.

4) His father is in the middle state economically, which he considers the best state since he belives that the poor have a difficult life, whereas the rich are hated by the poor.

Well, I don't know ...

Since all of this is background for the actual story, I think all of the verbs should be in past tense.

1 and 2 already are.

3 and 4 = hoped, would, was, ignored, was, considered, believed, had, were

1) In the beginning of the novel, we are introduced to Robinson, who was born in 1632 in the city of York, located in the north of England.

Revised: "In the opening chapters of the novel, we are introduced to Robinson, who was born in 1632 in the city of York, situated in the north of England."

2) Robinson's original name was Robinson Kreutznaer, derived from his mother's surname. However, when his family moved to England, his German surname was anglicized and became Crusoe.

Revised: "Originally, Robinson's surname was Robinson Kreutznaer, taken from his mother's side of the family. Nonetheless, when his family relocated to England, his German surname was simplified and changed to Crusoe."

3) Despite his father's hopes for Robinson to pursue a career in law, Robinson's strong desire to go to sea leads him to disregard his father's advice.

Revised: "Although Robinson's father harbored hopes for his son to pursue a career in law, Robinson's unwavering passion for the sea compelled him to disregard his father's counsel."

4) Robinson's father holds the belief that the middle class represents the ideal socioeconomic state. He holds this viewpoint because he perceives the poor to have a challenging life, while the rich are often resented by the poor.

Revised: "In Robinson's father's perspective, the middle class occupies the most desirable position in society. He maintains this viewpoint because he perceives a difficult life for the impoverished and a sense of animosity from the poor towards the wealthy."
