please help me with this question.

gives line graph with 0 to 2 1/2 marked.
problem: store A charges 9.75% tax and store B charges 7.25%. if shoppers's pre-tax receipt is between $11.57 and $81.43, write and graph a compound inequality that describes the difference in taxes paid for the two stores ( to the nearest cent)
I wrote 11.57 <y < 86.43 but since line graph looks like want diff. tax 2.50 or 2 1/2, i am confused. thank you for your help ann

To write a compound inequality that describes the difference in taxes paid for the two stores, we need to consider the tax rates and the pre-tax receipt range given.

Store A charges 9.75% tax, so the tax paid can be calculated as 0.0975 times the pre-tax receipt.

Store B charges 7.25% tax, so the tax paid can be calculated as 0.0725 times the pre-tax receipt.

Let's use the variable "x" to represent the pre-tax receipt, and "y" to represent the difference in taxes paid.

We know that the pre-tax receipt is between $11.57 and $81.43, so we can write the compound inequality as:

11.57 < x < 81.43

Now, let's substitute the tax paid for each store into the compound inequality.

Store A: 0.0975x
Store B: 0.0725x

Thus, the compound inequality for the difference in taxes paid (y) is:

0.0975x - 0.0725x < y < 0.0975x - 0.0725x

Simplifying this inequality, we have:

0.025x < y < 0.025x

We can further simplify this to:

0 < y < 0.025x

Since we are graphing this inequality, we should consider the range of x values given on the line graph as well. According to the information provided, the x-axis on the line graph goes up to 2 1/2 or 2.5.

Therefore, the final compound inequality, taking into account the range of x values, is:

0 < y < 0.025x (where 0 < x < 2.5)

To graph this compound inequality, you can plot the x-axis from 0 to 2.5 and shade the y-axis region between the two inequalities: y > 0 and y < 0.025x.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.
