The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 16 in. The area of the triangle is 12 sq in. If the base is x in, the height is 4 in and the legs are y in, find the length of the three sides.

A = x * h / 2 = 16 in ^ 2

16 = x * 4 / 2 Multiply both sides with 2

32 = 4 x Divide both sides with 4

8 = x

x = 8 in

P = x + 2 y = 16

16 = 8 + 2 y

16 - 8 = 2 y

8 = 2 y Divide both sides with 2

8 / 2 = y

4 = y

y = 4 in
