Homework Help: history- civil war

What did Abraham Lincoln mean by saying slaves represented money? He meant that without the slaves the South would have no income. The more slaves they had, the more income.

Right.

Also, slave owners paid money for their slaves, and could sell them -- just as they would horses or cattle.
