In the following sentences identify the main clause. Find the subordinate clause and tell if it is used as noun, adjective, or adverb.
1. Most of the teachers are Americans, though a few come from England and France.
main clause: Most of the teachers are Americans yes
Subordinate clause type: noun no
2. We believe that Christianity is the key to a better world.
Main clause: We believe yes
Subordinate clause type: noun yes
3. The prince's chief interest was tennis, which he was just learning to play.

Identify the use of the italicized noun clause.
4. [What Scripture tells us] should be the basis for our behavior.
object of preposition
subject <--- this would be a subject? yes
direct object
5. The game will be won by [whoever plays best.]
subject complement
subject
object of preposition <--- I think this one is an OP yes
6. I found [what I was looking for in my purse.]
subject complement <-- i think it would be this one. no
direct object
subject
Identify the word(s) that the italicized adverb clause modifies. (I'm kinda iffy on these ones.. not too sure..)
7. The bus will pick up the children [when school is out.]
modified word: bus? no
8.The child burned his hand [because he forgot that the burner was still on.]
modified word: I think this one would be hand? no
Adjectives (or adjective phrases/clauses) modify/describe nouns
Adverbs (or adverb phrases/clauses) modify verbs -- they tell when, where, how...
Think about normal English word order:
S V DO
subject, then action verb, then direct object
S LV PN/PA
subject, then linking verb, then predicate noun or predicate adjective (also referred to as subject complements)
Let us know what changes you make.
1. Most of the teachers are Americans, though a few come from England and France.
main clause: Most of the teachers are Americans
Subordinate clause type: noun
But the subordinate clause describes "teachers"
2. We believe that Christianity is the key to a better world.
Main clause: We believe
Subordinate clause type: noun
3. The prince's chief interest was tennis, which he was just learning to play.
Main clause: The prince's chief interest was tennis
Subordinate clause type: noun
Again, subordinate clause describes noun, tennis
Identify the use of the italicized noun clause.
4. [What Scripture tells us] should be the basis for our behavior.
object of preposition
subject <--- this would be a subject?
direct object
5. The game will be won by [whoever plays best.]
subject complement
subject
object of preposition <--- I think this one is an OP
6. I found [what I was looking for in my purse.]
subject complement <-- i think it would be this one.
direct object
subject
If you said "I found the cow.", then you would say "cow" was the object.
Identify the word(s) that the italicized adverb clause modifies. (I'm kinda iffy on these ones.. not too sure..)
7. The bus will pick up the children [when school is out.]
modified word: bus?
pick up - when?
8.The child burned his hand [because he forgot that the burner was still on.]
modified word: I think this one would be hand?
burned - because
REMEMBER adverb modifies VERB
1. Okay, so since the subordinate clause describes a noun.. it would be an adjective clause?
3. and the same with this one.. so it would be an adjective because the clause describes a noun
6. would be subject.. not subject compliment.
Thanks again for all your help! It really means a lot to me :)
You have corrected 1 and 3, but 6 is still incorrect. Look at this:
I found [what I was looking for in my purse.]
Since "found" is an ACTION VERB, not a linking verb, what comes after it? See the sentence formulas I gave you above.
Identify the use of the italicized noun clause.
That I was in a hurry was no excuse for my rudeness.
