I left out 2 sentences. Can you help me check it? Thank you.

1) She is not the complement to her husband,but (?) rather the driving force behind her husband.
In spite of the fact that we tried to save him, he died.

Both sentences are fine. Put a space after that comma in the first sentence, though.
