Homework Help: correct my paragraphs

The final cause for a couple to separate is abuse. An individual may be physically, emotionally, or sexually abused. One spouse may degrade his or her partner through harsh language. Drug and alcohol makes the person violent; in addition, there may be no physical or verbal abuse, but the other partner would understandably have a difficult time adapting
A few grounds for divorce are infidelity, lack of communication, and abuse. Cheating is the most common cause for a couple to one another. Lack of communication causes a couple to be distance causing their mirage to terminate. The abuses a spouse may receive cause a couple to also split.

This seems very "choppy" and reads like a list -- a disorderly list.
