A majority of Americans believe the death penalty deters crime.

a. yes b. no

The other question was about Texas believing so. I would say Texans believe it will deter crime but over all majority of Americans do not.

If you go with "yes" -- make sure you can prove the word "majority." What data is telling you that more than 50% of all Americans or all Texans believe this.
