During a checkers game, there are 16 pieces left. The ratio of black to red is 3:5. How many black pieces are on the board?

I think it's 6.

number of black = 3x
number of red = 5x
3x+5x = 16
8x=16
x=2

number of black pieces = 3(2) = 6
number of reds = 5(2) = 10

check:
so we have 16 pieces
and 6:10 = 3:5
