I need help on an essay. I'm suppose to pick an author to write about and I chose Ernest Hemingway. I need help getting started. I need help on my thesis that way I can get started.

Why did you pick him? Did you have something in mind? If so develope that into a thesis.
Now if you picked him using the dartboard method, do some reading about his life: what motivated him? what were his dark secrets?
How did Hemingway's brief stint as a newspaperman affect his style?
How did his brief wartime experience affect his great work (A farewell to arms?)
What did he encounter when he came home from the War?
What did he see in Cuba?
So delve into the man, and his writing, and make in the thesis some point you want to explore.
