Hydrochloric acid is usually purchased in concentrated form with a 37.0% HCL concentration by mass and a density of 1.20g/mL. How much of the concentrated stock solution in milliliters should you use to make 2.5L of 0.500M HCL

  • chemistry -

    #1, calculate the M of the commercial solution.
    1000 mL x 1.20 g/mL x 0.37 = grams HCl/1L
    grams/molar mass HCl = ?M since that will be moles/L.

    Then Mconcd x ?mL concd = 0.500M x 2,500 mL
    Solve for ?mL.

  • chemistry -

    1.2g/ml x 1000ml x 0.37 / 36.5 = 12.16M

    12.16m= 2500ml x 0.5
    12.16m = 1250ml
    x = 1250ml/12.16
    x = 103 ml This is answer.
