Which of the following was not an innovation that came about do to militarization in the 1800's?

A. canned food and milk
B. Larger farms
C. Factory production of bread
D. Margarine
* I chose D Margarine do you agree if not what would you choose and why?

I disagree. Napoleon had a hand in this.

Emperor Louis Napoleon III of France offered a prize to anyone who could make a satisfactory substitute for butter, suitable for use by the armed forces and the lower classes.[4] French chemist Hippolyte Mège-Mouriès invented a substance he called oleomargarine, the name of which became shortened to the trade name "margarine". Mège-Mouriés patented the concept in 1869 and expanded his initial manufacturing operation from France but had little commercial success. In 1871, he sold the patent to the Dutch company Jurgens, now part of Unilever.[5] In the same year the German pharmacist Benedict Klein from Cologne founded the first margarine factory "Benedict Klein Margarinewerke", producing the brands Overstolz and Botteram.[6]

so what would you choose?

Me? I bake bread at home. Bread factories did not come about until after WWII. Until then, most of it was baked in shops and at home, where it is supposed to be made. WWII women had to work outside the home, so bread making at home was not easy. The few factory bakers during the 30's were restricted to a few cities.

Thank you ;)

Its not c!!! stupid people!

I agree with your choice of D. Margarine as the option that was not an innovation brought about due to militarization in the 1800s. To further explain how to arrive at this answer, let's examine the other options:

A. Canned food and milk: Canning food was indeed an innovation that emerged during the 1800s due to military needs. Canned food was developed as a way to preserve food for soldiers during long expeditions or military campaigns. The process of canning allowed for a longer shelf life and improved food safety during transportation.

B. Larger farms: The need to provide food for expanding armies in the 1800s led to increased agricultural production. This, in turn, necessitated larger farms to meet the demand for food. So, larger farms can be attributed to militarization in the 1800s.

C. Factory production of bread: With the larger demand for food during wars, especially bread as a staple, industrialization and factory production methods were introduced to meet the needs of the military. This helped increase efficiency and productivity in bread production.

D. Margarine: While margarine was indeed invented during the 1800s, it was not directly tied to militarization. Margarine was initially developed as a substitute for butter and was not specifically driven by military requirements.

Therefore, the option D. Margarine is the correct answer as it does not align with the innovations directly resulting from militarization in the 1800s.
