six familys split the cost of a family reunion. each family also spends \$65 for a hotel room. Each familys share of the cost of the party plus the cost of the hotel room totlas \$160. write and solve and equation to find the cost of the reunion.
i don't know how to do this without knowing how many days they are staying at the hotel? or can i still do this problem?
im stuck.

I think you have to assume that each family stays at the motel just one night.

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

so 65.00 + r/6 + \$160.00

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

You haven't written an equation.

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

65.00 + r/6 + \$160.00

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

An equation needs an equal sign.

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

65.00 + r/6 = \$160.00

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

That answer doesn't make any sense.

In your equation r = 15.83

You need to find the total cost of the reunion party.

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

\$160.00 /6 = x

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

Nope!

Each family pays \$160. Of that amount, \$65 is for the hotel room.

6(160 - 65) = t

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

t = 570.00

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

Right. Doesn't that make sense?

• algeBRA WORD PROBLEM -

6(160-65)=p
160-65= 95
6(95)=p
p= \$570
