one side of a square is decreased by 20% while its adjecent side is increased by 10%% forming a new rectangle. the area of the new rectangle formed is what percentage of the area of the original square?

    old area = s2

    new area = (0.8s)(1.1s) = 0.88s2, or 88% of old area
